Do you ever have an idea and think “I AM THE SMARTEST HUMAN ALIVE”, only to do a Pinterest search to find that someone has already done it? Well, this is one of these times. So, after having this idea I searched around and found that the folks at Hello Glow have written a similar article. If you don’t know Hello Glow, check it out, it’s a healthy lifestyle blog that is full of amazing articles on healthy eating, organic beauty and wellness. I am still totally feeling the effects from an overindulgent holiday season, so I’ve decided to make getting more fruits and veggies into my diet a high priority. I work hard to eat local and shop in season, but I’ve noticed that this time every year I need a little pick me up of organic greens and tropic fruit to bump up my immune system and vitamin levels. These pre-made smoothies are like a micro-vacation in a glass.
So here are my smoothie prep tips:
- I do this on Sunday night to help me stick to my good habits for the week, but of course, do what works for you.
- Pick your healthy core ingredients and mix and match your flavors to avoid making the same smoothie 7 days in a row.
- I start each smoothie with a base of Kale or other green, leafy veg, spinach or swiss chard would work too.
- I add a second veggie to act as a healthy filler and bulk up the smoothie, some of my faves are cauliflower, celery or carrots
- Then I finish with fruit for flavoring and vitamins mango, apple, blueberry, banana always work well.
- Feel free to add a super-charger if desired ginger, spirulina, ashwagandha, or turmeric are all great additives.
Wash and chop all your veggies, I have a Vitamix so I chopped my ingredients fairly coarsely, if you have a standard blender, chop your veg much smaller to help the blender deal with the fibrous plants.
Label your freezer bags with ingredients and date them. If you have another freezer safe option that isn’t plastic, then go with that. Freeze for up to a month, but 7 -10 days is best.
Now What ? How to Blend your Healthy Smoothie
When you are ready to use one, take your prepared smoothie pack out of the freezer and toss the contents right in the blender. Feel free to wash & dry your bag to use it again.
Add filtered water a bit at a time, working up to 3 cups of water. Feel free to substitute 1 cup of water to organic fruit juice or coconut water, to achieve your desired flavor, so 2 cups water 1 cup juice.
Each pack will yield 2 big servings, I like to have one when I get up and refrigerate the rest for a couple of hours to tie me over until lunch. I get a little sense of satisfaction knowing that I’ve given my body a healthy start to the day.
So, feel free to give this a try and let me know what you think. Does it work for your busy schedule? Did it save you any time in the morning?

This is exactly the info I needed! I really would like to have smoothies every morning but can’t always get my act together with all the food prep lol. Batching it and freezing it is SUCH a great idea! I do this with soups already…don’t know why I didn’t think about doing individual smoothie ingredient bags! It’s so clever 🙂 Doing this on Sunday!
Thanks Mary Jane, it’s been working out great for me, I hope you have the same success.

Love it! Another time (and freezer space) saving trick I used when my daughter was young for organic baby food (and smoothies) was to blend in advance and freeze in ice cube trays. Pop a hand full of (3-5) cubes into the blender with- juice, water, yogurt, or even pre-cooked cereal. Also great for herbs and soup base starters for those with limited freezer space and those busy mornings!
Good ideas Shelaigh, thanks for sharing. 😃

This is great Jana! We have been having smoothies for breakfast for the past month or so. I am looking forward to trying your combinations as I think we have been using too much fruit and not enough vegetables. We use some almond milk as well as filtered water. Will let you know how we like your suggestions.
Thanks Geri,
I hope you enjoy the recipes.
I look forward to your thoughts 🙂
