Why am I taking this course?
- For my own Health
- For my Familie’s Health
- To Become a Better Gardener
- For my Clients
- And of course, for All of You!
I’m taking this course for my own health:
My health has never been bad, per se… but it’s also been a long time since I have felt fully rested, light and clarity of thought.
A few years ago, I had a very sleepless pregnancy followed by 16 sleepless months with our little girl, who has always been healthy, sweet and bright… but she just really didn’t like to sleep much. She recently turned 3 and I’m pleased to say she sleeps like a champ now, 10 hours a night consistency.
But even after all these months, I still feel sleepy and lethargic, I have bursts of energy and productive days, followed by an entire day in Zombie mode… or should I call it Mombie mode 😉
Herbs have been used for centuries to help clear the mind, stimulate or relax the body and aid digestion…all the things that are lacking when I’m in Mombie mode. My hope is to start incorporating herbs into my diet as part of a good foundation for a healthier lifestyle.
By regularly studying and including herbs as part of my daily routine, I hope to begin to feel more energized, sleep better and feel brighter and lighter. So that I can feel more prepared to take on those tough Mombie days.
I’m taking this course for my family’s health:
I am not one to run out to the doctor every time someone in my house has a sniffle, now I’m not an irrational person… If myself or someone in my family needs real medical care we act immediately, and you should too. But, I feel that as part of a long-term prevention strategy herbs are a great option to help boost immunity, ward off common colds and keep flu season at bay. As such, I intend to use what I learn in my herbal education to help improve my family’s health and overall wellness.
I’m taking this course to become a better gardener:
As a gardener I already grow many of the herbs suggested in the Introductory Herbal Course, I’m just not confident using them other than in basic culinary recipes – tomato and basil soup anyone?
But, easy to grow herbs like lemon balm, lavender and chamomile are staples in many garden plots and have also been used for centuries in the school of herbal healing. Lemon balm is used to calm the body and mind, lavender is used to relax the mind and prepare the body for sleep and chamomile is a well-known sleep aid. When combined these herbs make a lovely herbal tea that calms the body and mind. See my recipe for this Chill Out Herbal Tea here.
I’m taking this course for our clients:
I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned this yet, but my husband and I are Professional Land and Garden Designers, that’s my day job when I’m not here with you. So, my hope is to gain a deeper understanding of the plant communities that I create for our land and garden design clients.
Many of our clients want to use their land to feed and heal themselves, taking this course will enable me to custom design a client’s site to provide for their family’s health needs.
I’m taking this course for you:
My hope is that this course will help me create some great articles for you, even if it’s just a herbal tea recipe or two. If one of my recipes helps you feel more rested and restored the course will have been worth it for me.
Also, I really want to make sure that I am providing you with unique, quality information throughout the blog that is not only helpful but fun to read too. I feel like this course with help me do just that. I took a little peek at my curriculum to come and there are so many great recipes and how-to’s in there including a recipe for Herbal Infused Hot Chocolate which is up on the Herbal Academy blog.
At the end of the day, I started this blog so I could help people. I want you all to feel capable and empowered to live a more self-sufficient life, on or off the farm. We can all try to do our best, right where we are.
I want you to know, that you can do this and I’m here to help.
So are you ready?
This is only the first step in my Journey to Herbal Heath there will be many more articles in the coming months.
To Learn more about preparing and using herbs pop over to The Herbal Academy’s site and check out their blog it is full of amazing free resources. And come back soon, I will be writing more on my journey with The Herbal Academy as I work through their Introductory Herbal Course this fall.
